Sahara consult is the project management and business advisory consulting firm. We manage for impact project using ICT and Innovation as well as providing advisory services on Investments and Investors with interest In African market and in particular Tanzania.
Sahara Consulting manages projects which creates impact to the community using ICTs and Innovation. It is currently involved in two acceleration programs; Amua Accelerator which we are doing with UNFPA/UKAID and Mawazo Challenge Accelerator which is HDIF/UKAID funded. Both of accelerators are looking to accelerate startups growth in different sectors one for the SRH sector and the other for the general health sector.
Other projects we are involved in are, Data Zetu which we are doing in collaboration with MCC/PEPFAR and Hatua Project which we are doing in collaboration with MAVC/HIVOS.
Code 4 Citizens (C4C) is an acceleration program aimed at nurturing ideas (projects) related to tech for governance. C4C receives individuals with ideas at an early stage, prototypes or MVP’s that are modelled to use technology as a tool to promote good governance, citizen engagement, transparency and accountability.
Sahara Sparks was contracted by OpenNet Africa to conduct test select digital safety and security tools to understand what works well and why and what might need change. The tools to be tested included those supported by the Open Technology Fund: Cryptocat. Mailvelope, Martus, TextSecure and Redphone
ReFab Dar is a pilot program to explore how plastic waste can power entrepreneurship using 3D printers in Tanzania. ReFab Dar tests the feasibility and scalability of turning plastic waste into filament that can be sold internationally and turned into products for local communities, offering new livelihoods for Tanzanian youth. ReFab Dar will convene unconventional stakeholders to build practical skills on digital fabrication and entrepreneurship in order to better equip tomorrow's young men and women with the resources to thrive in a healthier, greener Dar Es Salaam.
Making All Voices Count is a global initiative that supports innovation, scaling, and research to deepen existing innovations and help harness new technologies to enable citizen engagement and government responsiveness. The programme is managed by a consortium consisting of Hivos (lead agency and in charge of collaborative component), Ushahidi (technology lead and in charge of the Competitive approach) and Institute of Development Studies (in charge of the Research, Evidence and Learning component). It is currently funded by four donors: DfID, Sida, USAID, and Omidyar Network. Buni conducted acceleration programme for the selected ideas by the funders.
FinDisrupt is an event which is in a form of a hackathon, that brings together product development teams among Financial Service Providers as well as researchers in the financial sector and tech developers in Tanzania all together in one room to discuss and brainstorm on new products in the financial sector by using Data dive. These people work in teams to come up with different products and later on the end users are invited to come and give feedback on whether the products meet their needs.The main reason for this event is to ensure enough supply on demand in the financial sector and the tagline is, “Let’s connect, curate, collaborate and construct”.
Energy Change Lab (a programme of Hivos and IIED) are gathering a mixed group of activists, entrepreneurs, academics and engineers for an Energy Safari in Dar es Salaam. The Safari is an intense 5-day learning experience to explore and experience the main challenges around energy access issues and to work together on new potential solutions.
Negawatt is a global competition empowering communities to innovate around local energy issues. Using a multi-phase open innovation methodology, this initiative aims to transform cities into more sustainable and energy efficient places. Cities all over the world have been selected on the basis of their governments' commitment to energy efficiency and low carbon growth, as well as the existence of dynamic and growing entrepreneurial and technology sectors.
AMUA Accelerator is an acceleration program which will be able to foster and mentor innovative ideas that will generate solutions to sexual and reproductive health related challenges. The purpose of this project is to support young entrepreneurs, through mentorship, with seed funding training and skills development to generate innovative solutions in response to challenges related to sexual and reproductive health and other population development issues which affect the majority of young people.
Mawazo Challenge 2 is the partenship program between Tanzania Bora Initiative(TBI), Tanzania Medical Students Association(TAMSA) and Sahara Sparks with the aim to empower and provide the platform for the Health and Allied Services Universities Students in Tanzania to be able to establish new businesses and social enterprises, develop new techniques, new models, and new products to tackle challenges facing the health sector, and bring them to market.
Data zetu is a program designed to improve positive experiences with using data to make more informed, evidence-based decisions in local communities in Tanzania. The project is funded by PEPFAR, facilitated by MCC and implemented in partnership with IREX, Sahara Sparks, Tanzania Bora Initiative, Code for Tanzania and Code for Africa.
Hatua Project is a partnership project between Hivos, Making All voices Count, Sahara Sparks and Buni Hub aimed at supporting the government efforts in taking the most effective steps in the approach to strengthening good governance with the application of technological solutions targeting Tanzanian citizens from diverse communities are more relevant and needed today.
